jayne doe, a deer.

i've been dabbling with the idea of getting a tattoo for an awfully long time now but me being the indecisive so and so that i am i've not been able to decide on a design and artist or the placement, which as you can imagine is problematic. the other thing that worries me ever so, is the fact that when i think back to tattoos i've wanted in the past i thank christ that i didnt go through with them, nautical star anyone? how about a dolphin? (seriously)
recently though, one of the components that i want has become clear... i want it to be done by the fantastic becca jayne doe! her work is exactly what i'd want in a tattoo, feminine, different, amazingly executed and intricate. my only problem is that when i contacted her to book an appointment, the waiting list had closed until 2012, this has just made me want her work even more and i dont mind waiting therefore i'm going to book a slot as soon as soon as the waiting list reopens which gives me a while to decide on my design and placement, i trust her eye so much that i know as long as i have a vague idea of what i want she'll be able to make it beautiful, here are some of my favourites of her.

Bleach!

The other day i was reading about bleach salon in london and alex brownsell, it seemed really funny that all the polished vogue readers would be reading about a fundamentally grunge and rock inspired salon, where even the name and logo are no doubt inspired by nirvana's famed song. either way the look of the hair produces is anything but what is considered 'mainstream' some examples are below. my friends have always been ones to experiment with different hair colours and have fun with 'crazy colour' bottles from Nottingham market in the Victoria centre, so it seems kind of a shame that everyone will most likely be jumping on the trend sooner or later.

Inspired by the mint green colour i decided to pop a bit of pine green on my ends, it washed out really quickly though and is now a tad patchy which sucks! might go burgandy or pink next because i'm bored post uni.

NASTY PASTY

a few years ago i was looking for vintage clothing on ebay (unsuccessfully) but i happened to stumble across an ebay store called Nasty Gal Vintage, they had lots of lovely things but it being an american store, the shipping costs were steep. a couple of months ago i saw a banner on fashion toasts blog for nasty gal's website, i clicked on and to my surprise, found that they sell a lot of new and very on trent clothing mainly by american designers!
i absolutely love pretty much everything on there, in particular the following bad boys.

not forgetting jeffrey campbells beautiful lita platforms, which i have been wanting for what seems like an eternity.

mayday! mayday!

i'm definitely feeling a lot of pressure at the moment, that bastard of a final major deadline is approaching fast and i'm getting that constant groan of "you should be doing university work, not sewing/ crocheting/ watching films/ tidying your room/ shopping/ doing anything that isn't uni work" i hate that voice.
i guess now that voice is saying you should be doing university work, not blogging... but this is a quick one.
time is moving so quickly at the moment, i can't believe its may already! so to mark mayday weekend, here is an amazing song by Mayday Parade (still very much listening to standard summer pop punk)

life's a stitch.

so that last post of my embroidery was quite frankly terrible, needles (haha) to say i started again!
i spend two nights doing that instead of uni work and it's now ready to be given to liam, who i'm hoping will see the funny side rather than the insulting side of my cheeky cross stitch.
Here it is in a pretty little ikea frame!

i took a picture with the mirror effect on my photobooth so one of the images would be the correct way round! xox

subversive cross-stitch.

like a dumb ass, i left my crochet at home when i went back for easter! i miss it so i've started a new crafty hobby (source of procrastination) i've begun my subversive cross-stitch!
my first attempt isn't going great since i'm trying to make it up as i go along which makes alignment difficult...
theres only one person who would appreciate my finished product, so i'm giving it as a present to my friend liam.
it is going to read

"there's no "i" in team, but there is a "u" in c**t"
(without the stars but i censored that for the eyes of my followers)

i think he'll find it funny, i hope he will.
i'll let you know how it goes...

it looks awful so far and it's obviously backwards on my macbook image but once i finish it and add some hearts and patterns it will look AMAZING!
xo

don't be mocking the mocha

'scuse the blog title, watched about a gazillion hours of the mighty boosh this eve in order to put off doing university work... the hard work starts tomorrow. today has been a lovely day, the sun was shining and since my friend louise is back from birmingham for easter we decided to take a magical trip out to wollaton hall and deer park to have a picnic and see lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

here's a squinty louise with our yummy lemon cuppycakes!

pre pubescent pop punk

so i thought i'd do a music based blog, recently i've been noticing exactly how much i listen to music compared to other people - pretty much whenever i get the chance! i even have a habit of bringing my laptop into the bathroom to listen to spotify when having a bath, i cant really fall asleep without music playing and when i'm walking anywhere i must have my trusty podster by my side.
my first love in terms of music is pop punk hands down, i remember when i was 11 my cousin came to live with us and brought her cd collection along with her, she was a couple of years older and she was really into punk at that time, she brought fat wreck chords compilations, NOFX, blink 182 and dookie by green day (she brought loads but they were the ones that really stuck out to me) i loved it and remember just going out to hmv and spending hours in the pop/ rock sections searching for ataris and mxpx cd's. when i was going through tough times at that point i'd just pop enema of the state on and it would cheer me up. obviously listening to this kind of music changes the way you dress too and everything that you're into. summers after this point were spend mainly on skateboards around the village or playing on street sk8er on the playstation and to this day, these summers with my cousin are the best memories i have.

something about this kind of music just makes everything bad go away somehow, it is just so carefree and brings a smile to my face whenever i listen. bringing back memories of evenings spent going to pop punk gigs, going to get piercings and just generally wanting to be american. i think these songs really spoke to me and ignited my love for everything musical and really at the minute i don't think i'd be able to cope with anything if i didn't have music.
following my pop punk enlightenment i went through the inevitable emo stage (a funeral for a friend hoody being my favourite item of clothing at this point) the ska phase (lots of two tone, trumpets and bands like farse) also in more recent times getting into more independent and european stuff (múm, jeniferever, sigur ros etc) no matter what i've really been into musically i've always loved pop punk alongside it and i really hope it will always be that way.

here are a few videos that provoke the fondest memories for me -

Chez moi deux

here are some cheeky snaps of mine and sarah's boudoirs (i tidied mine especially for taking photos)

in sarah's room there's a piece of string stretching from wall to wall, one night she decided to learn how to make paper cranes, made tonnes of them and then hung them all along this piece of string, it looks lovely now!

this is sarah's picture wall, a mish mash of different sized and styles of frames with lots of odd and pretty pictures in, all of which mean a lot to her (the cuckoo clock was a present i got her last christmas and it fits in nicely)

this is sarah's lovely little pansy window box, although we don't have a garden/ outside area since we're on the second floor we decided to make our fire escape all girly and that.
although we spend most of our time chilling in the lounge, when i need to actually get on with work i'll shut my self in my little haven!

although we've known each other for 4 years, me and my housemate sarah never seem to be able to find a photo of us both that we both actually like, since this one that i got developed we were both happy with i decided to take the opportunity to frame it and display it!
my little bedside area,my favourite mug which is always there since i wake up thirsty at least once every night, the photos on the wall are a xmas gift off my best friend rach!
i love these two little wooden postcards, i found them in a little independent book store in berlin.

i love my desk space, although i must admit that i don't spend much time sat there. the typewriter is from work and the J on the wall was a present off my good friend rach. you can also see my humble camera collection, my digi sony slr, my diana lomo, my smena and my polaroid.

this pici is a screenprint from a shop called ryan vintage in manchester, i really love stags heads at the minute and it looks pretty swell on my wall!

this is the favourite part of my room, a vintage mirror i found in snoopers paradise in brighton, i love it so much even though it was a right bugger to cart around brighton!
anyway i'm done with the house tour now, phew! that was a long'un.
